OVERVIEW
Genocide has occurred in various parts of the world in the 20th century, and allegations of genocide have recurred in the 21st century in the conflict in the Darfur region of The Sudan. The international community often responds with silence to allegations of mass atrocity and mass killings that culminate in genocide. The post-genocide response of the international community has been to repeat the "Never Again" mantra and establish criminal tribunals in the aftermath of genocide.
This conference will examine the crime of genocide and the legal, social and political framework for dealing with present crimes and deterring future acts of genocide. It aims to promote awareness of the dangers of genocide and empower individuals and other interested parties in dealing with genocide and its consequences. The conference will draw on a wide range of perspectives through the participation of scholars, activists and policymakers from African, Asian, European and North American institutions.
