Adam Avrushin

Adam Avrushin is the Deputy Director of the Pozen Family Center for Human Rights. 

He served in leadership positions at multiple youth and child-serving organizations and higher education. In addition, he served as attorney/guardian ad litem for youth involved with Illinois' state child welfare system.

 Adam oversaw the strategic innovation and development of organizations, programs, and community initiatives. These efforts included bringing trauma-informed and positive youth development supports to youth on Chicago's west side, overseeing the development and management of research-informed programs in multiple service areas, and collaboratively facilitating community initiatives around healthy housing, immigrant mental health, and community violence.

Adam's research and writings examine the service systems responsible for making critical life decisions for two "child welfare" populations. His dissertation focused on how licensed child welfare caseworkers for children in state care think about child placement, permanency, and well-being. His more recent research examines the perceived service needs of young people who are unaccompanied immigrants and their families residing in the Chicago metropolitan area. 

Adam earned a PhD from the University of Chicago's Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice and his JD and MSW from Case Western Reserve University.
