Faculty Projects
About
The Pozen Center supports research projects that allow University of Chicago faculty to explore critical dimensions of human rights thought and practice. We encourage collaborative work across disciplines and schools, and projects that draw students and the broader University community into the research work of faculty.
Projects can span anywhere from one to three years. Examples include a speaker series, working group meetings, performances, workshops, conferences, or edited volumes. A project can also operate as a laboratory, designed to offer solutions to a particular human rights problem. We offer financial, strategic, and administrative support for these projects.
Ongoing and Recent Projects
Reproductive Justice Beyond Rights
As an integral part of her Spring 2020 course, “Reproductive Rights as Human Rights,” Postdoctoral Instructor Amy Krauss facilitated a three-part speaker series that addressed our current moment of public health crisis with guest speakers from the fields of reproductive and sexual rights legal advocacy, ethnographic research, and feminist activist praxis. The series helped students deepen their thinking around the limits and possibilities of transnational human rights and different ways of envisioning and practicing reproductive justice. For more information, see the project page.
Implementing Human Rights Standards for Women
Gina Fedock (SSA) and Claudia Flores (Law School) are currently completing Year 2 of a project on implementing human rights standards for women, which examines how and the extent to which international human rights standards have been domesticated and implemented through improved policies and practices to support the protection of women’s human rights. For more information, see the project page.
