
Bruna G. Benevides, a Brazilian transgender (travesti) activist, shares insights into her work on trans inclusion and human rights.
Carlos Gustavo Halaburda, Assistant Professor of Latin American Literature, will moderate the conversation.
Benevides is president of the National Association of Travestis and Transsexuals (ANTRA) of Brazil. Since 2017, she has served as the lead researcher and author of the annual survey on violence against the Brazilian trans population. She has also conducted research on trans candidates in elections and gender-based political violence.
She has been invited to speak before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (Organization of American States), the Permanent United Nations Forum on People of African Descent, and numerous other organizations. Her awards include the Legislative Medal of Merit from the Brazilian Congress, the highest honor bestowed by its Chamber of Deputies.
