Join the Human Rights Lab and UChicago Amnesty International as we participate in the Mississippi Freedom Letters Campaign, a project to write letters to every person incarcerated in Mississippi. We are hoping to write at least 50 letters, to send love and support to those inside while drawing attention to what’s happening and making sure that lawmakers and elected officials know that we will hold them accountable.

Mississippi prisons have become the site of a profound humanitarian crisis due to increased state violence over the past few months. Five people were killed in a single week beginning in late December, and all prisons have been on lockdown in the weeks following. People have no food, no access to working bathrooms, and are sleeping on concrete without pillows or blankets.

Letter-writing supplies and pizza will be provided.
