About the Speaker(s)

Gustavo Arellano covers Southern California and the American West for the Los Angeles Times. He previously worked at Orange County Weekly, where he was a reporter and author of the column ¡Ask a Mexican! Arellano was a finalist for the 2025 Pulitzer Prize in Commentary for his pieces, filed from across the Southwest in Election 2024, that shattered stereotypes about the political leanings of Latino voters. In his weekly columns, as in his memoir, Orange County: A Personal History, Arellano writes from his perspective as “the son of Mexican immigrants, one of whom arrived in this country in the trunk of a Chevy.”
