Parrhesia and the editorial leadership of The Maroon are hosting Alissa Zhu, Nick Thieme and Jessica Gallagher of The Baltimore Banner.

Zhu, Thieme, and Gallagher won the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for Local Reporting for their investigative series documenting Baltimore’s catastrophic fentanyl crisis and its disproportionate impact on older Black men. Thieme, a journalist with a degree in Computer Science, programmed a statistical model illustrating the scale of the addiction crisis that he shared with newsrooms nationwide.

Maroon editors and staff will hold a panel conversation and workshop with these Pulitzer-winners focusing on the arcs of their professional lives, the ethics of local and humanitarian news writing, advocacy journalism, their approach to investigative reporting and data storytelling, and the benefits of collaborative work.
