Professor Dailey’s research focuses on modern United States social and political history, African American history, the American South, and legal history.
She is the author of Before Jim Crow: The Politics of Race in Postemancipation Virginia (University of North Carolina Press, 2000); An edited collection (with Glenda E. Gilmore and Bryant Simon), Jumpin' Jim Crow: Southern Politics from Civil War to Civil Rights (Princeton University Press, 2000); and The Age of Jim Crow: A Norton Documentary History (Norton, 2008).
