With a new academic year comes a new cohort of participants in the Pozen Center Human Rights Doctoral Fellows Program, an intensive yearlong forum for UChicago PhD candidates whose research intersects with human rights themes.
This year's cohort includes students of history, anthropology, political theory, political science, sociology, romance languages, theater and performance studies, and social work.
Fellows meet throughout the academic year, typically three times per quarter, enriching each other's research and writing with workshop-style feedback and exposure to the perspective of other disciplines.
At the end of the year, fellows are joined by faculty from UChicago and other universities (both domestic and international) in a seminar where they receive additional feedback on their paper.
Fellows also receive a stipend and support for conference attendance. They are eligible for additional grants to support field research.
This year's fellows are:
- Nahomi Linda Esquivel (History)
- Khouloud (Lou) Gargouri (Romance Languages and Literatures and Theater and Performance Studies)
- Myungi Lee (Anthropology)
- Niklas Plaetzer (Political Theory)
- Anne Ruelle (Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice)
- Kyra Schulman (History)
- Madeleine Stevens (Political Science)
- Nicolás Torres-Echeverry (Sociology)
