Anne Ruelle is a PhD candidate in Social Work, Policy, and Practice at the University of Chicago.

Her research aims to better understand the lived experiences of people affected by community and state violence in El Salvador through a gendered lens. More specifically, her dissertation research focuses on the impact of El Salvador's State of Exception on the family members of people incarcerated under this escalated "mano dura" policy.

Her work has been funded by the Tinker Foundation, the Crown Dissertation Research Grant, the Pozen Center Doctoral Research Grant, and the Fulbright Program. She has over 10 years of research and work experience in El Salvador and holds a master's in social work from the University of Chicago and a BA in Global Studies and Spanish from Providence College.
