Lou Gargouri is a joint Ph.D. candidate in Romance Languages and Literatures and Theater and Performance Studies.

Her research centers on female solo performances in contemporary French theater, analyzing how this genre provides a unique platform for women to stage their inner lives, challenge traditional gender norms, and subvert the male gaze.

Alongside her academic pursuits, Lou is also a passionate theater practitioner; she has studied acting at El Teatro in Tunis, and stand-up comedy at Cours Florent in Paris and Second City in Chicago. Her creative work engages with themes of memory, trauma, and resistance, underscoring the vital role of art in advocating for human rights and social justice.
