Ruby Velez

Ruby majors in Human Rights and Law, Letters, & Society, and is pursuing an MA in International Relations through the BA/MA dual degree program.
She approaches international human rights solutions from a background of policy advocacy and direct services in immigration, housing, and health. After beginning in immigration defense law, Ruby went on to intern at the House of Representatives, and later to environmental conservation work in Belize.
On campus, she serves as managing editor for the Chicago Journal of Foreign Policy, president of the UChicago Harm Reduction Project, and its adjacent housing aid program, the Appalseed Initiative. She currently works as a research assistant with the Colombia-South Africa Corporate Accountability Project.
