Johan Luíz Rocha

Johan Luíz Rocha is a third-year PhD candidate in the department of Comparative Human Development. As a Brazilian migrant from a low-income family, he is committed to enhancing the ways school policies address the socio-emotional needs of Latin American refugee and undocumented youth. Prior to candidacy, Johan worked with the Teach for All network to enhance educational outcomes for migrant students in urban Houston and rural Chinese schools, and later, at the Inter-American Development Bank in implementing and evaluating innovative pedagogical interventions. Johan holds a B.A. in English Rhetoric and Composition from Texas A&M University where, as a fellow with the Academy of Future International Leaders, he completed a thesis documenting educational policy failures in Brazilian public schools and later received a master’s degree in International Education Policy from Harvard University.
